Solo homers by Ted Simmons, his 17th and 18th of the season, lifted the Cardinals to a 4-2 decision over the Mets. The first blast came in the opening frame after Garry Templeton singled, stole second, went to third on an infield out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Keith Hernandez.

The second homer snapped a 2-2 tie in the seventh and was Simmons' eighth game-winning RBI of the season. Later in the inning, Silvio Martinez gave himself an insurance run with a sacrifice fly that scored George Hendrick. [The Sporting News]
