The Expos opened their lead over the Phillies to 5½ games by knocking them off for the seventh time in as many meetings, 6-5. Andre Dawson brought home the Expos' first run with a sacrifice fly in the third and knocked in the team's final two tallies with a single in the fifth after Chris Speier singled and Warren Cromartie and Rodney Scott walked.

The Phillies rallied for three runs in the sixth on a homer by Garry Maddox, singles by Manny Trillo and Bob Boone, an error by Speier and single by Bake McBride. Elias Sosa foreclosed any further comeback with two innings of hitless relief. [The Sporting News]
