Tippy Martinez notched his fifth relief win, blanking the Tigers through the final four frames without a hit.

The nightcap triumph also came on late-inning lightning. Ken Singleton tied the score at 5-5 with a two-run single in the seventh, and the winning run scored when John Lowenstein reached on an error by Dave Machemer in the eighth, advanced to second on a walk to Rich Dauer and scored on a two-out single by pinch-hitter Terry Crowley.
