A single to right field by Dave Rader with two out in the eighth inning was all that staved off complete humiliation for the Phillies as the defending N. L. East champions lost for 23rd time in 34 games and for the eighth straight time to the Expos, 3-0. The one-hitter was the fourth of Steve Rogers' career.

A throwing error by Rader gave the Expos the only run they needed. With two out in the first, Andre Dawson singled, stole second and scored on the catcher's errant peg. [The Sporting News]
