For the second straight night, the Astros came from behind to beat the Padres by one run, this time by a 3-2 score. The comeback began with two out in the eighth and the bases empty. Art Howe doubled and Terry Puhl singled to score pinch-runner Jimmy Sexton.

Cesar Cedeno opened the ninth with a single off Rollie Fingers, stole second and scored on a pinch-single by Walling, who took second on the throw to the plate and advanced to third on a groundout by Enos Cabell. Jose Cruz and Julio Gonzalez were walked to load the bases before Alan Ashby, pinch-hitting for Bruce Bochy, singled to center to end the game. [The Sporting News]
