A three-run third inning carried the Giants to a 5-2 victory, their seventh in nine games against the Reds this season. John Curtis opened the decisive inning with a bunt single. Bill North, who scored the Giants' first run on Mike Ivie's two-out single in the first inning, singled.

A single by Jack Clark scored Curtis and sent North to third, whence he scored on a long fly to right by Ivie. A single by Bill Madlock then plated Clark. Gary Lavelle pitched three innings of hitless relief to record his ninth save. [The Sporting News]
