Scattering five hits and getting the Cubs' first complete game since May 18, Rick Reuschel hurled the Cubs to a 5-0 blanking of the Pirates. Bill Buckner gave the Cubs the lead with a solo homer in the first inning.

They iced the contest in the eighth with a four-run outburst climaxed by a three-run homer by Jerry Martin. Martin's blast came off reliever Enrique Romo with Scot Thompson and Buckner on base after Ivan DeJesus had scored on a sacrifice fly by Bobby Murcer. [The Sporting News]
