The Twins swept a doubleheader from the White Sox, winning the first game, 4-3, and capturing the second game, 7-1. In the opener, the score was 3-3 when Bombo Rivera opened the Twins' seventh inning with a single. Roy Smalley forced Rivera at second and went to third on a single by Ron Jackson. Steve Trout replaced Rich Wortham on the mound for the Sox and Dave Edwards singled to center to score Smalley. Mike Bacsik pitched the final 4 1/3 innings and retired all 13 batters he faced.

In the nightcap, Smalley belted three doubles to pace the Twins' 11-hit attack. Smalley doubled in the first inning and scored on a single by Glenn Adams. Smalley opened the third with a two-bagger and tallied on a single by Ken Landreaux. In the eighth stanza, a two-run double by Hosken Powell was followed by Smalley's third double.
