A homer by Mike Schmidt with two men on base climaxed a four-run sixth inning that carried the Phillies to a 5-3 victory over the Cubs. The Phils trailed, 3-0, entering the sixth and scored their first run on singles by Greg Gross and Bake McBride and a wild pitch. Pete Rose then beat out an infield hit before Schmidt connected off reliever Donnie Moore. Bob Boone added a solo smash in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
