A bases-loaded double by Rick Auerbach in the fifth inning sparked the Reds to a 9-1 victory as Fred Norman tossed a six-hitter in going the route against the Dodgers for the second time this season. Joe Morgan got the Reds started in the fifth with a homer.

A double by Ken Griffey, walk to George Foster and single by Arturo DeFreites loaded the bases before Auerbach cleared the sacks with one of his three two-base hits in the game.
