Racking six pitchers for 17 hits, the Cubs enjoyed an 11-4 pounding of the Phiilies. Dave Kingman belted his 26th homer of the campaign, connecting with a man on base in the first inning, and Jerry Martin clouted a two-run round-tripper in the third, marking the fourth straight game in which he had hit for the circuit.

Winning pitcher Mike Krukow hit his first career homer in the fourth inning but was ejected from the game in the seventh after he and Phillie reliever Kevin Saucier became involved in an altercation after Krukow was hit by a pitch. [The Sporting News]
