A homer by John Stearns provided the winning margin as the Mets edged the Pirates, 3-2. The circuit clout came in the seventh inning with two out and gave the New Yorkers a 3-1 lead. The Mets scored twice in the first inning, one run coming on a double by Richie Hebner and the other on a wild pitch by Buc starter Jim Bibby. [The Sporting News]
