The relief pitching of Kent Tekulve, who allowed only one hit in the last 2 2/3 innings and picked up his 10th save, helped the Pirates defeat the Expos, 6-5. The Pirates jumped on Bill Lee for three runs in the first inning. Omar Moreno singled, stole second and scored on a single by Tim Foli. After Dave Parker grounded into a double play, Bill Robinson and Lee Lacy hit consecutive homers.

The Pirates added a run in the third and capped their scoring with a pair in the fourth. Parker drove in one run with a single and later scored what proved to be the deciding tally on an error by Rodney Scott. The Expos routed Bruce Kison in the sixth when Tommy Hutton hit a pinch-homer with two men on base. [The Sporting News]
