Fattening his league-leading average to .373, Roy Smalley smahsed a homer, double and single, driving in five runs, to pace the Twins' 19-hit attack in a 16-4 rout of the White Sox. Smalley batted in a run with his single in the third inning, doubled for two RBIs when the Twins exploded for six runs in the fourth and added his homer with a man on base in the seventh.

Rob Wilfong had three hits for the Twins and produced three runs. Going into the ninth with a 16-1 lead, Geoff Zahn failed to complete the game and was knocked out when the White Sox scored three runs, one on a homer by Lamar Johnson. [The Sporting News]
