Steve Rogers scattered eight hits in hurling his fifth shutout of the season as the Expos downed the Cubs, 5-0. The Expos scored in the first inning when Gary Carter's pop fly was lost in the sun by Cub shortstop Ivan DeJesus and fell for a double, scoring Andre Dawson, who had singled and moved to second when Tony Perez was hit by a pitch. Run-scoring singles by Larry Parrish and Chris Speier made it 3-0 in the sixth and Ellis Valentine's two-run single in the seventh closed the scoring. [The Sporting News] |
