A two-run homer by Bake McBride in the seventh inning enabled the Phillies to defeat the Mets, 4-2. The Mets scored a run in first on a single by Frank Taveras, a wild pitch and a double by Lee Mazzilli.

After the Phillies tied the score in the fourth on a single by Pete Rose and double by Greg Luzinski, Manny Trillo singled in the seventh and moved up on a sacrifice by Bob Boone. Pinch-hitter Tim McCarver struck out before McBride decided the outcome with his homer. [The Sporting News]
