A two-run homer by Dwight Evans in the ninth inning lifted the Red Sox to a 6-4 triumph over the Royals. With two out, Butch Hobson punched a single to left and was replaced by pinch-runner Jim Dwyer before Evans cracked his 11th homer of the season and 100th of his career. Mike Torrez worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the ninth to earn the victory. [The Sporting News]
