The winning run scored on a throwing error as the White Sox posted a 5-4 decision over the Indians. The score was 4-4 going into the ninth when Claudell Washington opened with a walk and took second on a sacrifice. Pinch-hitter Garr then drew a walk.

With Alan Bannister batting, Washington broke for third. Indians' catcher Ron Hassey elected to try for Garr, who had bluffed a run at second, but threw the ball into center field, allowing Washington to continue home. [The Sporting News]
