Lary Sorensen pitched a two-hitter for the Brewers and shut out the Yankees, 3-0. The Milwaukee hurler retired 20 straight batters before walking Reggie Jackson to start the eighth inning. One out later, Chris Chambiiss broke up the no-hitter with a sharp single to right. Bucky Dent singled for the other hit in the ninth.

In both the eighth and ninth, Sorensen got out of trouble with double plays started by first baseman Don Money. On both plays, Sorensen covered first base for the second out. Sal Bando homered for the Brewers in the fifth and their other runs scored in the sixth on a double by Paul Molitor, single by Dick Davis and an error by Yankees third sacker Graig Nettles.
