Rick Langford allowed one hit -- an infield single by Brian Downing in the fifth inning -- as the A's notched a 3-0 victory, ending the Angels' six-game winning streak. Downing's hit was a high hopper that third baseman Wayne Gross gloved, but his throw to first was not in time.

The A's scored twice in the seventh when Jeff Newman drew a leadoff walk and came home on a double by Gross, who moved to third on a groundout and tallied on a single by Jim Essian. Essian also had an RBI double in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
