The Tigers edged the Blue Jays, 3-2, behind the combined five-hit pitching of Kip Young and Aurelio Lopez. Ron LeFlore scored the initial Tiger run in the first inning when he walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a groundout. Lou Whitaker walked to open the fifth, went to third on Blue Jay catcher Rick Cerone's errant pickoff throw and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jason Thompson.
