Willie Horton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth inning, forcing in the Mariners' go-ahead run in a 5-3 victory over the Red Sox. Jim Rice accounted for the Red Sox scoring with a pair of homers. Horton, who hit for the circuit in the second inning, came up in the sixth after the Mariners had tied the score at 3-3 on a bases-loaded single by Larry Milbourne.

Incensed when he was hit by a pitch thrown by Dick Drago, Horton charged the mound, scuffled with the Red Sox reliever and was ejected from the game but received credit for an RBI. Bob Stinson batted in the Mariners' insurance run with a double in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
