Celebrating his 25th birthday, Jason Thompson rapped three hits in the first game and smashed a two-run homer in the second game as the Tigers swept over the Brewers in a twi-night doubleheader, 7-4 and 5-4. Thompson batted in the Tigers' initial run in the opener with a single in the first inning and accounted for another RBI with a single in the eighth when the Tigers erupted for four runs. After Thompson's hit broke a 3-3 tie, the Tigers loaded the bases and Lance Parrish rapped a two-run single. The fourth run of the frame counted on a throwing error by Robin Yount.

In the nightcap, Lou Whitaker walked in the sixth inning and Thompson followed with his homer to put the Tigers ahead, 4-3. Singles by Champ Summers and John Wockenfuss around a wild pitch by Jim Slaton then added what proved to be the winning run. A Cushion Night promotion helped attract the second largest crowd in Brewers' history, 54,630. [The Sporting News]
