Mike Schmidt batted in three runs with a single, sacrifice fly and homer to support Nino Espinosa, who pitched the Phillies to a 6-1 victory over the Giants. After Schmidt hit his single for the initial run in the first inning, the Phillies added a pair of tainted tallies on an error by Johnnie LeMaster.

A pass to Pete Rose, single by Greg Luzinski and Schmidt's sacrifice fly produced another run in the third. Schmidt hit his homer in the seventh and Boone followed with a back-to-back clout. [The Sporting News]
