The Cardinals smashed four home runs in each half of a twi-night doubleheader and swept over the Braves, 9-5 and 5-4, with the second game going 10 innings. Lou Brock set the tenor for the Cards' slugging by leading off the lidlifter with a homer on the first pitch thrown by Eddie Solomon. Bernie Carbo, Mike Phillips and Jerry Mumphrey joined in the attack, each hitting his first homer of the season in the Cardinals' four-run sixth. The Braves had a three-run triple by Rowland Office.

The Cards continued their slugging in the nightcap with two round-trippers by Garry Templeton and one each by Ken Reitz and Mike Tyson. Templeton smashed his second homer for the winning run in the 10th inning. [The Sporting News]
