A homer by Rick Cerone with two men on base in the fourth inning started the Blue Jays off to a 5-1 victory over the Rangers. Roy Howell doubled and John Mayberry walked ahead of Cerone's clout off John Henry Johnson. The Blue Jays' two other runs were unearned.

Tom Underwood blanked the Rangers until the ninth when singles by Bump Wills, Billy Sample and Buddy Bell accounted for a run before Tom Buskey relieved and choked off the rally. [The Sporting News]
