Two homers by Carlton Fisk and one each by Bob Watson and Dwight Evans highlighted a 14-hit attack as the Red Sox routed the Mariners, 8-2. The Red Sox jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. A double by Rick Burleson and walks to Fred Lynn and Carl Yastrzemski loaded the bases. Burleson scored on an infield hit by Watson, Lynn scored when Fisk was hit by a pitch and Yaz scored when Butch Hobson drew a base on balls.

Watson and Fisk hit back-to-back homers in the third frame and Fisk clouted a leadoff homer in the fifth. Evans also connected in the fifth with the bases empty. [The Sporting News]
