Dividing a doubleheader, the Padres won the lidlifter, 5-3, as Gaylord Perry scattered eight hits in going the route, while the second game was taken by the Mets, 4-1, as Doug Flynn drove in three runs. In the first game, the Padres trailed, 3-2, going into the third inning, when a single by Gene Richards, sacrifice by Ozzie Smith, who reached safely on a throwing error by Met first baseman Willie Montanez, and two-run single by Dave Winfield produced a 4-3 lead. The Padres' final tally came in the sixth on an RBI single by Richards.

In the second game, singles by Richie Hebner and Steve Henderson and a walk to Joel Youngblood loaded the bases for the Mets in the second inning and Flynn lined a two-bagger to the wall to clear the sacks. [The Sporting News]
