After squandering a three-run lead in the top of the ninth inning, the Braves pushed across a run in the bottom of the frame to edge the Cardinals, 6-5. The Cards tied the game with a three-run outburst, capped by a two-out, two-run homer by Garry Templeton. In the Braves' ninth, Pepe Frias doubled with one out and, after pinch-hitter Jeff Burroughs received an intentional walk, Jerry Royster singled to plate Frias with the winning run.
