Extending their lead in the A. L. East to three games, the Orioles thumped the A's, 7-3. The Birds scored four times in the second inning. John Lowenstein singled and went to second on a wild pitch. Doug DeCinces walked and both runners advanced on another wild pitch.

A single by Rich Dauer scored one run, a double by Rick Dempsey netted a second, a sacrifice fly by Al Bumbry produced the third and a single by Kiko Garcia capped the rally. Two errors by A's third baseman Dave Chalk paved the way for two runs by the Orioles in the third frame and Ken Singleton clouted a solo homer in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
