Pounding out 17 hits, the Red Sox bombed the Angels, 9-3, as Fred Lynn led the assault with four hits. Lynn doubled in the first run in the first inning, singled in another in the third and scored himself on a double by Jim Rice.

Doubles by Jim Dwyer and Gary Allenson and a triple by Rick Burleson made it 5-2 after four innings. Lynn doubled and scored on a homer by Butch Hobson in the fifth. Dennis Eckersley yielded 11 hits but went the route for the seventh time this season. [The Sporting News]
