Rallying from a 7-0 deficit, the Cubs prevailed over the Reds, 10-8. After the Cubs pulled within two runs at 7-5, Ken Henderson was hit by a pitch to open the ninth inning and Jerry Martin followed with a single. A double by Larry Biittner scored Henderson. After Steve Ontiveros was intentionally walked, Reds' reliever Doug Bair hit Barry Foote with a pitch to force home the tying run and was replaced by Manny Sarmiento.

One out later, Steve Dillard stroked a two-run single and Bruce Sutter followed with another two-run single. The start of the game was delayed two hours by rain and again for more than an hour after the Cubs scored their five ninth-inning runs. [The Sporting News]
