The Tigers defeated the White Sox, 4-1, in the first game of a Disco Demolition Night doubleheader, but the second game was called off because of fan disorder. In the game that was played, the Tigers scored a run in the first inning. Lou Whitaker walked and raced to third on a single by Rusty Staub, who stole second. When catcher Mike Colbern's throw sailed into center field, Whitaker came home. In the second, Jerry Morales reached first on an error by third baseman Jim Morrison, stole second and scored on a triple by Tom Brookens. Run-scoring singles by Morales in the third and Lance Parrish in the sixth completed the Tiger scoring.

After the game was completed, thousands of fans poured onto the field, preventing the second contest. Later, A. L. President MacPhail ordered the game forfeited to the Tigers. [The Sporting News]
