Pat Putnam hit a two-run homer and Nelson Norman drove in two runs with a triple to pace the Rangers to a 9-4 victory over the Royals. Putnam's poke came off Dennis Leonard after a walk to Oscar Gamble in the second inning and marked the 16th straight game in which Royals' pitchers had given up one or more homers. Norman hit his triple in the fourth inning when the Rangers clinched the decision with three runs. [The Sporting News]
