The White Sox smashed six homers, including three by Claudell Washington, to overpower the Tigers, 12-4. Washington started the barrage with a solo swat in the third inning. Ralph Garr connected with a man on base in the sixth.

Washington and Rusty Torres hit consecutive homers in the seventh and, after one out, Jim Morrison came through with his first round-tripper in the American League. Washington capped his power show with a two-run wallop in the eighth. The Tigers had a homer by John Wockenfuss. [The Sporting News]
