A three-run homer by Bake McBride and two-run smash by Mike Schmidt highlighted the Phillies' attack in a 10-7 victory over the Dodgers. After the round-trippers helped produce a 7-1 lead, the Phillies decided the outcome in the fifth inning when Garry Maddox drove in a run with a double and later scored himself on a passed ball by Joe Ferguson.

The Dodgers awoke in the last three innings, scoring two runs on a homer by Davey Lopes in the seventh, picking up another tally in the eighth and chasing reliever Ron Reed in the ninth before Tug McGraw took over to halt the three-run rally. [The Sporting News]
