Fred Kendall drove in two runs with a double and Gene Richards added a pair with a homer to enable the Padres to defeat the Expos, 5-1. Kendall sent the Padres off to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. In the sixth, Kurt Bevacqua was safe on an error by Rodney Scott, Fernando Gonzalez singled and Kendall sacrificed.

Bill Lee, pitching for the Expos, was called for a balk, allowing Bevacqua to score. Richards followed with his homer. The Expos were saved from a shutout at the hands of Randy Jones when Ellis Valentine hit for the circuit in the home half of the sixth. [The Sporting News]
