The Pirates swept a doubleheader from the slumping Astros, 9-5 and 4-2. In the first game, Willie Stargell put the Bucs ahead, 5-3, in the third inning with a two-run homer. After Houston tied the score, Phil Garner slammed a two-run round-tripper in the sixth to give the Pirates a 7-5 bulge and they added single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Bruce Kison gave up only four hits over eight innings of the second game. John Milner clouted a two-run homer in the first inning. The Pirates' other markers came in the fifth frame on an RBI single by Kison and sacrifice fly by Dave Parker. [The Sporting News]
