. . . where the 1970s live forever!

A six-run explosion in the first inning propelled the Angels to a 9-2 drubbing of the Red Sox. Rod Carew led off the game with a double and Carney Lansford was safe on a fielder's choice. A single by Dan Ford scored Carew and an infield out by Don Baylor drove in Lansford. Starter Joel Finch then walked the next two batters and Joe Rudi greeted reliever Dick Drago with a homer, his 12th career grand slam.

In the eighth inning, the Red Sox turned their second triple play against the Angels this season. With the bases loaded, Willie Aikens lined to Rick Burleson, who stepped on second to double Ford before throwing to first to erase Baylor. It was the seventh triple play in the A. L. this season, tying the major league record. [The Sporting News]
