George Brett collected three hits and drove in two runs to lead the Royals to a 5-4 victory over the Rangers. Brett hit an RBI single in the third inning and later scored on a single by Pete LaCock. A double by Steve Braun and single by Brett produced a 3-1 Royal lead in the fifth and Frank White drilled a solo homer in the sixth.

The eventual winning run came in the eighth when Al Cowens walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice and scored on a double by Willie Wilson. Pat Putnam clouted a three-run homer for Texas in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
