Playing in his first game since suffering a hand injury on June 24, Ted Simmons doubled in his first turn at bat to trigger the Cardinals to a 7-3 triumph over the Braves. The Cards scored twice in the first inning on a double by Garry Templeton, single by Keith Hernandez and Simmons' two-bagger, which gave the Cards a 2-1 lead. Besides his first-inning double, Templeton had an RBI double in the second, sacrifice fly in the fourth and he tripled and scored on a single by Lou Brock in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
