A pinch-single by Lou Piniella in the seventh inning snapped a 5-5 tie and lifted the Yankees to a 6-5 triumph over the Angels. Jerry Narron drew a one-out walk in the seventh and moved to second on a single by Chris Chambliss.

After Reggie Jackson struck out, Piniella batted for Jim Spencer and lined the first serve from Dave LaRoche into center field to score Narron. The Angels had tied the game in the fifth inning on homers by Rod Carew and Dan Ford. [The Sporting News]
