A seven-run explosion in the eighth inning carried the Royals to an 11-6 verdict over the White Sox. The Royals trailed, 6-4, in the eighth when George Brett and Al Cowens opened with singles that sent Sox starter Ken Kravec to the showers. Guy Hoffman relieved, gave up an RBI single to Darrell Porter and was derricked in favor of Ed Farmer.

After Cowens scored the tying run on a passed ball, Steve Braun was given an intentional walk and Jamie Quirk, batting for Freddie Patek, clouted a triple to put the Royals ahead, 8-6. The last three runs of the inning resulted from an error by catcher Milt May, an infield out by Amos Otis and triple by Brett. [The Sporting News]
