The Dodgers exploded for a 16-8 triumph over the Phillies as Joe Ferguson knocked in five runs and Dusty Baker drove in four. The Dodgers tallied six times in the third inning. A walk to Davey Lopes and singles by Bill Russell and Steve Garvey produced the first run of the frame. A walk to Ron Cey loaded the bases and Baker stroked a two-run single.

Rawly Eastwick relieved starter Dick Ruthven on the mound for the Phils and walked Ferguson to reload the bases. A single by Yeager plated two runs and a single by Rick Sutcliffe added the final marker of the frame. Ferguson singled in two runs in the sixth and clouted a three-run homer in the eighth.
