The Dodgers built up an 11-0 lead with the help of a three-run homer by Dusty Baker and then held on to defeat the Astros, 11-7, for their sixth straight victory. The Dodgers put together singles by Ron Cey, Baker, Joe Ferguson and Derrel Thomas, together with a two-base error by Astros' left fielder Jose Cruz, for three runs in the second inning.

Four singles and two walks produced five more runs in the third in a kayo of Joe Niekro. Baker hit his homer in the sixth. Charlie Hough, making only the third start of his major league career, gave up a run in the seventh and then was lifted in the eighth when the Astros rallied for six runs, including two each on singles by Terry Puhl and Jesus Alou.
