After Phil Garner made up for his error with the hit that won the first game, 5-4, the batting of John Milner and pitching of Bert Blyleven paced the Pirates to a 9-1 victory in the second game, completing the sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Expos before 59,260, the largest crowd in Montreal's baseball history. In the opener, Larry Parrish drove in three runs for the Expos with a homer and double, while Garner had a homer for the Pirates before his wild throw on an infield hit by Tony Perez in the seventh enabled the Expos to tie the score at 4-4. Dave Parker opened the Pirates' eighth with a single and Bill Robinson sacrificed. Garner then made amends for his error, hitting a single to drive in Parker with the deciding run.

In the nightcap, Blyleven pitched a five-hitter. Milner drove in four runs with a homer and single. Garner scored four times and batted in one run with a triple. [The Sporting News]
