The Expos and Cardinals divided a doubleheader, the Cardinals winning the first game, 7-2, and the Expos capturing the nightcap, 5-1. A bases-loaded homer by Keith Hernandez was the big blow of the opener. The score was 2-2 in the seventh inning when Mike Tyson opened with a single and was forced at second on an attempted sacrifice by John Denny, After Garry Templeton singled, Woodie Fryman came on in relief of Bill Lee for the Expos. Jerry Mumphrey drew a walk to load the bases and Hernandez then connected for his grand slam. The next batter, Ted Simmons, also hit a homer.

Four homers -- two by Ellis Valentine -- powered the Expos to victory in the second game. All of the round-trippers came with the bases empty -- Valentine in the fourth and sixth innings, Chris Speier in the fourth and Larry Parrish in the second. [The Sporting News]
