A four-run outburst in the eighth innng lifted the Cardinals to a 5-4 triumph over the Pirates. Trailing, 4-1, the Cards began their winning rally with a one-out single by Ken Reitz, who went to third when Buc second sacker Rennie Stennett booted a grounder off the bat of Jerry Mumphrey. Starter Jim Rooker then was derricked in favor of Grant Jackson, who gave up runs on singles by Mike Tyson and Dane Iorg, a grounder by Garry Templeton and single by Keith Hernandez.
