A single by Rick Cerone in the ninth inning drove home the winning run as the Blue Jays prevailed over the Royals, 3-2. With one out Otto Velez drew a walk and was replaced by pinch-runner Joe Cannon, who went to second on a single by Rick Bosetti.

John Mayberry bounced into a fielder's choice, putting runners on first and third with two out. Dan Quisenberry then relieved starter Paul Splittorff on the hill for the Royals and was greeted by Cerone's game-winning blow. [The Sporting News]
