The Cardinals swept a doubleheader from the Mets, 9-2 and 2-1. In the opener, George Hendrick hit a two-run homer for the Cards, Tony Scott drove in two runs with a homer and sacrifice fly and Ken Reitz and Keith Hernandez each hit two-run doubles.

Garry Templeton batted the Cards to victory in the nightcap. The shortstop stroked a leadoff single in the fourth inning, stole second, advanced to third on a grounder by Lou Brock and raced home on a groundout by Hernandez.
